(IsraelNN.com) The heads of the pre-military academies and the Hesder Torah academies have reached a preliminary agreement with army leaders that soldiers coming from these institutions will be transferred to other duties if they declare that they are incapable of performing duties connected to the expulsion from Gush Katif and the Northern Shomron.
Harav Mordechai Eliyahu, former Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, wrote that soldiers must say that they are not refusing to obey orders, but rather are incapable of fulfilling such orders. He says that the officers in the security forces need not resign their posts because of their unwillingness to perform those duties. “They must notify their commanders that they are not capable of expelling Jews and must request to free them from those preparations and exercises toward the expulsion.” Rabbi Eliyahu also referred to volunteers in the Citizen’s Guard and said there is no justification in Jewish law to volunteer to participate in this crime and that it is against Torah law.
