The new Gush Katif Anti-Disengagement Sefer Torah (holy Torah scroll) was prepared over months and completed last week in Crown Heights, Brooklyn (worldwide headquarters of Chabad Lubavitch hassidus) on Gimmel Tammuz (the 3rd of the hebrew month of Tammuz), the day of elevation of the Lubavitcher Rebbe (the day of the passing of the grand rabbi of Chabad hassidus).
The rally and march are therefore a holy occasion, a Hachnosas Sefer Torah, a welcoming of a Sefer Torah, the holy Torah scroll. The article reports:
The Sefer Torah written by the Campaign to Save the Nation and the Land is being brought to Gush Katif together with the march of thousands. The Sefer Torah leads the march, and rabbanim and community activists take turns holding the Torah. As Knesset Member Uri Ariel described the march: "The protestors are not tussling with soldiers or police; they are dancing and singing, holding a Sefer Torah. There is no precedent for this in history."
