(IsraelNN.com) Organizers report over 40,000 persons are taking part in the march from Netivot to Kfar Maimon, where disengagement opponents plan to spend the night as the first day of the three-day March to Gush Katif comes to an end.
Organizers also report that despite pertinacious police efforts to stop buses transporting disengagement opponents to Netivot, additional supporters continue to arrive in the area.
Former Knesset Speaker Dov Shilansky addressed the crowd, stating “I came to hear from the ghettos and death camps I came to here because we do not have another land. There will be difficult days. We will walk forward towards the future, towards tomorrow”."
"UPDATE FROM “HISTORY-MAKING” NETIVOT RALLY"
From israelreporter.com:
"7:42 pm 19:35 Israel Time
This is Shlomo Wollins reporting live from the Gaza Strip with an update on the Netivot rally.
Our sources have just reported that the official count currently at Netivot (by the army/police) is 89,000, not including a group estimated at 20,000+. And these numbers do not include the masses that are currently heading to Netivot at this time. The rally originally scheduled for 4pm has been delayed until 7:45pm (in 7 minutes time), with the mass march commencing at 9:00pm with a destination of Kfar Maimon, where the masses will camp overnite, before setting out for the Kissifum Crossing into Gush Katif tomorrow afternoon and night.
IsraelReporter.com has consistently been of the opinion that a gathering of over 100,000 would place Sharon’s “disengagement” in severe jeapordy. Due to Sharon’s moronic decision of today, we would now expect that rally to swell to double that number (at least 150,000 to 200,000), with a greater sense of conviction and mission than could have been inspired by any right-wing leader. Sharon has showed his “dictator” card one time to many, and the people of Israel are calling his bluff."
