(IsraelNN.com) IDF Personnel Branch officials report 220 military personnel reside in Gaza, including 40 career members of the army.
Chief of the branch Major-General Elazar Stern has released a directive that the area residents employed by the army will not take part in the implementation of the disengagement. Stern warned, however, that any member of the career army who remains past the August 15th deadline will face a hearing and his or her employment contract will be reevaluated.
One such officer approached his battalion commander who in turn took his dilemma to the division commander, explaining he cannot leave by the deadline as ordered due to family pressure, particularly from his wife. The army responded without sympathy for his situation, informing him that if he remains one day past the disengagement deadline set by the government, he can look for a new job.
